Hundreds turn out for Connor Saunders memorial fun day

Several hundred people helped raise about £4,500 in memory of Brighton teenager Connor Saunders this afternoon and this evening (Sunday 10 June).

They turned out for a fun day at the Sports Park in Piddinghoe Avenue, Peacehaven, in aid of the Connor Saunders Foundation.

The foundation will use the money to buy defibrillators, electronic devices for restarting the heart after a cardiac arrest, for Sussex football clubs.

The 19-year-old plasterer, from Downsway, Woodingdean, was a talented footballer who played at the Sports Park for Peacehaven and Telscombe FC.

He died in April after being punched in what Sussex Police described as an altercation in West Street, Rottingdean.

A 14-year-old boy from Brighton, who cannot be named for legal reasons, has been charged with manslaughter.

The schoolboy has been bailed until Monday 15 October when he is due to go on trial at either Lewes Crown Court or Hove Crown Court.
