Peter James’ book launch, design students’ degree show at The Amex and Kemp Town Carnival

Peter James’ new novel, Not Dead Yet, launched at the Grand Hotel on Thursday 7 June. It represents the eighth in the successful Roy Grace series, with most of the new novel takes place around the Grand Hotel and the Royal Pavilion.
In attendance were many local celebrities such as, Bill Randall, the Mayor of Brighton & Hove, and Chief Superintendent Graham Bartlett, with many members of the Sussex Police, who help Peter every year build the characters for his novels. Peter entertained his audience with some great stories, including one about a stunt he wanted to perform at the launch involving a big chandelier falling on the audience to turn the evening into a real murder event. He also thanked his own real-life stalker for inspiring his new book.

Tomorrow’s world
Lifesaving and life-enhancing designs by University of Sussex final year students went on display in the Product Design Degree Show at the Amex Stadium.
Visiting Year 10 school pupils from the Brighton Aldridge Community Academy found out first-hand about studying design at University and got to meet the student designers.
The four day exhibition was free and open to the public as visitors viewed prototypes and designs as well as talked to the creators.
Course leader Diane Simpson-Little said: “The products and services that this year’s graduates displayed encompass outstanding competence in research, critical analysis, design engineering and brand development. Our show gives an opportunity to see, not only the talent of our students, but also the work of tomorrow’s designers.”

Kemp Town Carnival 2012
One of Brighton’s largest free community street festivals; The Kemp Town Carnival took place on Saturday 9 June, showcasing a diverse range of art and entertainment from some of Brighton’s finest musicians, including the mighty Kalakuta Millionaires, jump jive action from the Fat 45, and the Legendary John Crampton. The Carnival proved fantastic fun for all ages with live street performance, dance troupes and Samba bands, community games, market stalls, great food and drink, the grand Custard Pie Fight, community choirs, break dancing, live street art, Tug’o’War, fantastic Children’s entertainment, magicians, workshops and fairground rides.
