The Low Anthem with Abi Wade

Local support act Abi Wade performed a one-woman set on her cello, featuring an innovative percussive technique and accompanied by a foot-operated drum and tambourine, which was both original and captivating. The established American folk rock quintet followed, entrancing the capacity crowd with their melodic harmonies and multifarious instrumentation – with every member effortlessly switching between clarinet, synthesisers, trumpet, double bass, guitar and drums. From gentle, barely whispered numbers to hard, Springsteen-inspired belters, with a brief interlude to sing happy birthday to fellow band member Josie Adams, the band did what they do best – leaving the audience hungry for more.
