The Sunrise to Sunset Paddle Challenge
The founders of Brighton charity Pass It On Africa are set to test their endurance to the limit on Saturday 14 July when they undertake the first ever ‘Sunrise to Sunset Paddle Challenge’. The challenge will involve four intrepid fundraisers attempting to paddle from Brighton Pier to the West Pier and back continuously from sunrise to sunset; approximately 16.5 hours.
Organiser and co-founder of Pass It On Africa James Macdonald is calling on Brighton and Hove residents to back the event by using online charity sweepstake Guess2Give to guess how far the team will be able to paddle in the allotted time. Money raised through Guess2Give will go towards the building of The Dreamland School in Ghana. People can make a donation and potentially win something back via either of the the team’s two Guess2Give fundraising pages.

James said: “The challenge will require huge stamina from the guys who will be paddling all day in difficult conditions. We will have to contest with wind and currents but we are determined to push hard, paddle as far as we can, and raise lots of money for the school in Ghana. We are asking that everyone use Guess2Give to guess the distance we will manage to cover – you can win a bit of money back if you guess right”.
Taking part in the event are Brighton residents Dave King 38 (Teacher), Dan Clifton 27 (teacher), James Macdonald 35 (Pizza Delivery man) and Mark Apel 37 (water sports instructor). The ‘Sunrise to Sunset Paddle Challenge’ is part of the wider training ahead of the ‘Paddle Channel Challenge’ to take place on 1 September.
