The Ecospot – Brighton eco design and interiors
Today we have a spot of the post Olympic blues…
We have thoroughly enjoyed the London 2012 Olympics and are feeling a little bereft after the almost 24 hour coverage finished on Sunday with the brilliant closing ceremony. Of course, we still have the Paralympics to look forward to in the coming few weeks, but in the meantime we are going to look at how to keep up the patriotic feel in your interior.
Union Jacks ahoy
Do not go overboard, but just adding a couple of key pieces will help create that eclectic interior look – just choose carefully. Here are 5 of our favourite Union Jack interior accessories to help you keep up the Team GB feeling:
The most obvious accessory to use would actually be a large Union Jack itself – hunt down a lovely, large, vintage flag such as this one we found at Colonial Soldier and use it as a wall hanging, over a bed as a canopy, as a central curtain for a large bay window…
Or how about getting a bit of old fashioned, British seaside cafe or village fete feeling into your kitchen? We love these Union Jack emblazoned mugs from British ceramics company Emma Bridgewater.
Fancy something a bit quirky? Go for something handmade and crafted, made and designed in the UK, like this great Labrador puppy by Becky Meadows which we think would look really sweet holding open a door or sitting in a hallway.
Vintage, faded Union Jacks are a less brash way to get some GB into your home – this lovely cushion from The Estate Yard is handprinted in the UK using faded colours to create a softer Union Jack feel and would be lovely as part of a set of cushions on a sofa.
Or how about this fantastic personalised word art Union Jack canvas print from More Than Words? Choose your favourite 200 words – places, activities, sayings – and they will create your own, personal Union Jack. What makes you proud to be British?
A great addition to a family interior, or as a house warming gift…
So, 5 of our Union Jack inspired accessories for a patriotic interior – just because the Olympics have gone it does not mean the wonderful Union Jack flag has to as well.
