The Ecospot – Brighton Eco Interiors and Landscapes
We regularly look at wall treatments here at the Ecospot – inside and out – papered, painted, decalled or decorated in some way. Recently we have looked at some great papered options for walls and how to add smatterings of colour to your interior with decals, but today we are looking at paint. Or specifically, recycled paint.
Eco paints are generally becoming much easier to find, with many companies creating VOC free, organic or natural paints suitable for both the domestic and commercial markets but recycled paint is still something which a lot of people are not too familiar with.
This is probably because Newlife Paints, who are based near us on the South Coast are pretty much the only people creating new paint from waste paint diverted from collection points at waste recycling areas.
You know those little scraps of paint you take to the tip? Well, instead of going into landfill (which is the fate for most paint across the UK), Newlife Paint batch it with similar colours from other scraps left in tins, subject it to a whole range of interesting treatments, re-tint it to their own recipes and re-package it as new, perfect, award winning, recycled paint.
It is a joy to use (we have used it on a few projects now, from interior projects to upcycled and bespoke furniture) and the small team are incredibly helpful and friendly – answering all of our odd questions and queries with ease and speed. Plus, when we were looking for a very particular shade of grey for the University of Sussex New Designers Stand (below), Newlife tinted us a very special mix which was absolutely perfect.
What is even better is that the prices for the paint are extremely competitive with standard emulsions, so if your budget cannot stretch to a full natural eco paint this recycled paint ticks the green design boxes without breaking the bank. At £17 for 5 litres of coloured paint it is comparable with other, high quality standard emulsions and a far better choice when you factor in the use of otherwise discarded waste.
So when it comes to painting your interior, take a look at Newlife Paints. They are a great company with a great product and we love them.
