The Guitar Masters

It is a truth universally acknowledged that a guitarist in possession of great technique is in want of a good tune. Well, it isn’t always so, but when you bill yourselves as ‘guitar masters’, you’d better tear the joint apart. Jon Gomm, Preston Reed and Andy McKee, leading lights of the ‘new school’ of acoustic guitarists, incorporate tapping, slapping and percussion into their tunes, but (and I’m a guitar geek) all the technique in the world doesn’t make up for dull music. The audience whooped and hollered… and chatted during the songs. In the end, I just couldn’t listen.
