I Am Adorkable – Being Frugal in Brighton

I know the above post title may seem a little peculiar to say the least but believe you and me, you can enjoy yourself tremendously in Brighton without having to break the bank. I know, I know, my comment may seem a little far fetched to my northern friends but I can assure you it’s true. That is of course if you are the type of person who, like me, enjoys eating out, listening to local bands and being entertained by spending your evening’s being crafty.

Here are my top four places to visit in Brighton should you feel the need to be frugal.

1. Piccolo Restaurant
2. Little Bay Brighton
3. Mrs Fitzherberts
4. Super+Super HQ

PICCOLO RESTAURANT

Piccolo has long been the Mr and I’s favourite Italian restaurant in Brighton, even when we used to come down on holiday (before we moved here from East Yorkshire ten months ago). They have amazing offers every day of the week which definitely should be taken advantage of if you love Italian food. Piccolo offer a Credit Crunch Lunch for £3.60, a Set Course Menu for £5.50 before 5.30pm and even still the Set Course Menu only goes up to £6.50 after 5.30pm – bargain!

It is absolutely delicious Italian food for very reasonable prices and has never disappointed us as customers. The drinks are reasonably priced too; a house bottle of red wine will set you back £9.90 or £2.50 a glass, but if you’re visiting in your lunch hour I would recommend a light refreshing lemonade which will set you back about £1.90.

LITTLE BAY BRIGHTON

This amazing little restaurant is only a stone’s throw away from Brighton beach and is our new found favourite modern european restaurant. The food is again, absolutely delicious and is offered at a very reasonable price. Little Bay is the only restaurant I have known to ask how you would prefer your burger (rare, medium, etc) and also provide you with a selection of breads whilst deciding on your meal. I have reviewed Little Bay before on my blog, which you can find over at i-am-adorkable.co.uk/little-bay, but if you don’t fancy the read, the snippet version goes like this; Starters are £2.55 and mains are £5.45. Another bargain? I think so.

MRS FITZHERBERTS

We found this pub by chance one evening walking through the theatre district. We noticed they often have live local acts on (usually for free or less than a tenner) and Fitzherberts have never disappointed us. The staff are all very welcoming and friendly and there is even a seating area outside should you wish to spend your evening out there. The pub is quite small but not restricting, even when it is very busy. There have been three occasions where we have literally walked in off the street due to seeing musicians perform music genres we like and have always enjoyed sitting down to enjoy a real ale and listen to the various local talents. A pint will set you back about £3.10, but if you are wanting to enjoy some music during the evening when you need to be frugal then I would say head down to ‘Fitz’ for an entertaining evening and a great atmosphere. It has a very intimate feel, which I really enjoy from music venues and look forward to visiting the venue on many more occasions.

SUPER+SUPER HQ

When I moved to Brighton I made a decision that I would find somewhere I would be able to meet new friends who share similar interests to myself (craft, music, blogging). After a few Internet searches I came across this wonderful new ‘Craft Hub’ and had a look around their website to see what it was all about. I was instantly happy to find that they hold ‘Stitch and Bitch’ nights, which is a phrase that has been used to refer to social knitting groups for years and I dropped them an email way back in April and asked if I could attend. They replied to me almost straight away and told me to come on down as it was open to everyone. Since then I have been hooked and have attended lots of wonderful events held at the HQ.

The lovely owners of Super+Super HQ are wonderful and talented women named Amy and Claire and they are so friendly and crafty it’s unreal. The HQ is constantly growing and they now hold many a workshop and crafty evening to get those creative juices flowing for women AND men. They charge very reasonable prices for everything they do and I am always trying to get more people to come along with me. They are definitely worth a visit at some point if you want to try something new and trust me, this is a place where there is always something going on. So what do you think? Fancy heading down there with me one evening? For a list of their most up to date classes, visit their website.

So there you have it, my top four places to visit in Brighton when you’re feeling frugal.

Are there any other places you would recommend to a friend when they’re feeling frugal? Feel free to tell me about it below.
