Simonne and the Dark Stars

Resplendent in a fur stole and a titfer of rare poise and beauty, Simonne took to the stage like a time-travelling refugee from a Dickensian music hall, and set about a set of songs which showcased her powerful and arresting voice. If her performance lacked coherence and that quality which forces an audience to listen rather than wait for the song to end that they might applaud, then I fear that this was largely down to the Dark Stars, whose co-ordination began and ended with their matching hats, an affectation which for a rhythm section might be considered somewhat unfortunate.
