Music: Shakedown
Following the success of the first Shakedown last year, the outdoor season finishes with a bang in Stanmer Park
Headliner this time around is the incredible rags to riches story that is Dizzee Rascal. Armed with such hits as Dance Wiv Me, Bonkers, Holiday, Dirtee Disco and Shout, this is bound to be a highlight if not the the highlight of the one day event. Right behind him, and further demonstrating the rude health of UK rap, is relative newcomer Professor Green whose two albums to date have featured a number of quality collaborations including with the likes of Lily Allen and Emeli Sande. Queen of the underground Katy B, undisputed breakout act of 2012, Stooshe, Clement Marfo & The Frontline and Union DJs will all perform on the main stage.
Joining this throng of A-list artists will be Arlissa, the 19-year-old UK singer songwriter whose debut single ‘Hard To Love Somebody’ is a duet with Nas. Plus there’s Jacob Plant, an in-demand producer who has remixed the likes of Jay Z, Kanye West, Tinie Tempah and Ellie Goulding, and Canadian-born B. Traits (Brianna Price), the first lady of digital sound beats. Finally, the main stage are host to a couple of local acts; Brimmer, who delivers bass-heavy house, dubstep and drum’n’bass, and electro-poppers Special Ks.
The Supercharged Arena will be headlined by DJ duo Chase & Status, the Australian electro house/dubstep duo Knife Party, who were founded by two members of Pendulum; Rob Swire and Gareth McGrillen; plus there’s BBC Radio One’s Zane Lowe, and the supremely talented Ms Dynamite. Other DJs on stage include drum’n’bass heavyweights DJ Friction, Shy FX and The Prototypes.
There’s more Brighton representation in the form of club nights Trash Mondays and In Ya Era, who will be doing battle in the silent disco area. And Hed Kandi host the VIP Arena with a host of DJs including Freemasons, Seamus Haji and Phil Faversham. The look? It’s speakeasy 20s and 30s gangster glam.
