Squeeze / Paul Heaton
Movement was restricted to toe-tapping at this seated event which, despite some nostalgic highs, suffered greatly due to a sluggish atmosphere.
Paul Heaton earned extra brownie points for indulging in the lost art of stage banter and a stirring version of ‘Caravan of Love’. Whereas Squeeze, playing to a room packed with devoted followers, got off to a pedestrian start. The first half consisted of too much new, lacklustre material but things improved vastly with an acoustic middle section featuring a rousing version of ‘Take Me I’m Yours’. Afterwards the crowd, freed from their chairs, cheered on a procession of well executed hits but it felt a little too late to salvage.
