Lewes FC play out shivery draw with East Thurrock
Lewes were lucky to come away from the Dripping Ground with a point, despite taking the lead against East Thurrock in the Ryman League. Ben Godfrey gave the Rooks the lead in the 25 minute after he adjusted well from a knock down to fire into the bottom corner.
East Thurrock took control in the second half and put together a string of chances. Lewes nearly escaped with all three points as the visitors squandered numerous opportunities. But with only thirteen minutes left on the clock, Kris Newby leveled the score at 1-1.
After the game both managers reflected on a fair result but were less than impressed with the referees performance. East Thurrock’s manager John Coventry was back and forth, he said: “at one stage I didn’t like him then I grew to love him, and then it went back the other way.” While Lewes boss Simon Wormull’s attention now turns to next weekend’s derby against Whitehawk. He stated: “we’re really looking forward to it and I think we can take the game to them.”
