Fire damages seven cars in Hove

Seven cars were damaged by fire in Hove after a bin was set alight in the early hours of this morning (Thursday 6 December).

The fire in the bin had spread to a Mercedes ML car which was burnt out.

Fuel leaked from the Mercedes, igniting and setting six other cars on fire and damaging a cover placed over two bicycles.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service and Sussex Police were called to the scene in Connaught Road, Hove, shortly before 3am.

No one was hurt. Investigators are trying to establish the cause of the blaze.

The damaged cars include two Mercedes, an Audi A3, a Honda Civic, a BMW, a Volkswagen Polo and a VW Scirocco.

Detective Sergeant Steve Warner said: “We are still trying to establish the cause of the fire which caused extensive damage.”

He urged anyone with information to call Sussex Police on 101
