The Manfreds – 50th Anniversary Tour

What a treat this show was! It featured both Paul Jones (the Peter Pan of British Blues) and his successor Mike d’Abo (under estimated and undervalued pop hit maker: see ‘Build Me Up Buttercup’ and ‘Handbags And Gladrags’ as examples A and B). As such The Manfred’s hits took on a fusion of styles, psychadelic blues! It gave the old songs (‘Do Wah Diddy’, ‘5-4-3-2-1’, ‘Ha Ha Said The Clown’) a new lease of life. Tom Mcguiness (like d’Abo) is a hidden treasure, an unflashy guitarist yet stylish as exemplified by the delightful acoustic set mid gig. Energetic to the end it was a fabulous performance.
