Brighton and Hove singer wins the Voice final in Germany
A singer and songwriter from Brighton and Hove has won the German version of the TV show The Voice.
Nick Howard, 30, a former pupil at Cardinal Newman Catholic School in Hove, won by a big margin last night (Friday 14 December).
He sang his own song, Unbreakable, and performed a duet with Emeli Sandé during the final show of the series in which he faced three rivals.
Howard picked up about 41 per cent of the vote, with his nearest competitor attracting about 2 per cent.
He left Brighton to try to make it as a musician in America and ended up splitting his time between New York and Berlin.
He landed up in Germany supporting US performers on tours and spent the past few months brushing up his German as well as honing his performances.
After winning he said: “It was my dream to be here and Germany has given me the chance to live that dream.”
Today (Saturday 15 December) he said on Facebook and Twitter: “I’ve never been able to say this before. My song Unbreakable is No 1 on iTunes. Thank you all so much.”
