EDF executive takes over as chairman of governors at Brighton college

The chief information officer at EDF Energy has taken over as chairman of the board of governors at City College Brighton and Hove.

Peter, a long-standing governor at City College, takes over from Robin Morley, who has led the board for four years.

Mr Morley, who runs his own arts events management company, Magnetic Events, will continue to serve as a governor.

He said: “It has been a wonderfully exciting and challenging four years during which the college has achieved so much.

“We got an excellent Ofsted outcome in June 2011 and are now the top-performing college in Sussex for 16 to 18-year-olds.

“I am delighted to stay on the board, working with Peter Hofman and our new principal, Lynn Thackway, to continue to raise standards at the college and to build our partnerships with the local community, schools and businesses even further.

“I am especially pleased that the college’s long-held ambition to redevelop its Pelham Street campus now looks set to become a reality.”

Lynn Thackway said: “Robin was on the panel of governors which appointed me and has been a great source of support in my first few months in post.

“He has been a fantastic leader and I am very pleased that the college will continue to benefit from his knowledge and insight as a governor.

“Peter has been a brilliant governor over the years and is a very worthy successor.”

The college has about 2,000 full-time and 7,000 part-time students and provides training to staff from more than 2,000 businesses. It has its main campus in Pelham Street and another in Wilson Avenue, Whitehawk.
