Jailed Brighton mother could be freed from Bali prison within weeks

A mother from Brighton could be freed from prison in Indonesia within weeks after being sentenced to one year for having drugs.

Rachel Dougall, 39, was cleared of a being part of an international drug trafficking ring in Bali but convicted of not reporting a drugs offence.

Dougall has already served eight months in prison and may be eligible for parole in the new year.

She was one of four Britons accused of trying to smuggle cocaine worth almost £1.6 million into Bali.

Police found 25kg of cocaine at the house in Bali that she shares with her partner and co-defendant Julian Ponder. He is on trial for trafficking. The couple have a six-year-old daughter.

Another of the four Britons, Paul Beales, 40, was jailed for four years for having drugs.

And Lindsay Sandiford, 56, a grandmother from Gloucestershire, faces 15 years in jail if the court in Bali accepts the recommendation of prosecutors.
