Flood alert issued for Patcham in Brighton

Rising water levels after heavy rain have prompted the Environment Agency to issue a flood alert for Patcham in Brighton.

Brighton and Hove City Council said that it was continuing to monitor the ground water level even though less rain was forecast over the next few days.

And council officials would be liaising with colleagues from the Environment Agency and East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service.

Southern Water is monitoring water levels and how the sewage system is coping with the excess water.

If water levels continued to rise, the council said, support would be provided to people living in affected properties.

Leaflets were posted through people’s doors in the area recently inviting them to join the flood alert scheme. Those joining receive a phone call advising them of flood alerts in their area.

The homes in danger of flooding have been visited by council officials.

The council added that a rest centre for anyone living in Patcham in need of help would open if needed.
