Charity fundraisers, local heroes, the Buffalo Bourbon Empire in town & a new dessert club

Hurst School fundraiser
Inspired by the daunting prospect that cancer affects one in three at some stage in life and that we all therefore encounter it, whether as sufferers or as friends or family of sufferers, Hurst fifth former James Henriet has organised a sponsored head shave to raise funds for Cancer Research UK. Some 13 pupils (and maybe one or two staff!) will shave off their locks in front of the College pupils just before the February half term.

The boys are now busy seeking sponsors and are hoping to raise a four figure sum. To support them please visit www.justgiving.com/hurstappeal2013

Dessert club
On Saturday, Brighton cake and ice-cream shop Cloud 9 partnered with wine brand Barefoot to host an indulgent evening of wine and desserts. The event marked the launch of Cloud 9’s new Dessert Club, a monthly event celebrating everything sweet, where wine enthusiasts and cupcake fans enjoyed sugary treats and complimentary glasses of wine.

For this special occasion Cloud 9 unveiled a limited-edition wine sorbet, made with Barefoot Merlot – combining flavours of cherry, boysenberry, plum and chocolate.

Buffalo Trace
Following its launch in Central London in October 2012, The Buffalo Bourbon Empire has relocated to Hove for two weeks from 25 January. Brought to you by award-winning Buffalo Trace Kentucky Straight Bourbon Whiskey, this pop-up bar, inspired by the Prohibition era, is secretly located on the top floor of The Wick Inn, Hove. A true taste of a 1920s speakeasy, from its concealed entrance through to the authentic American cocktails served by skilful Prohibition bartenders.
Until Saturday 9 February 2013 at The Wick Inn, 63 Western Road, Hove, BN3 1JD
