City Camp organisers seek ideas to improve life in Brighton and Hove

People with ideas to make life better in Brighton and Hove are being asked to come and share them at City Camp 3.

The weekend event later this month is intended to find ways of combining the internet, other technology and the participation of people who live and work in the area.

Five projects will win small grants of £500 each and a tailored package of support and introductions to help the winners turn their ideas into reality.

The support this year – the third time that City Camp has been held in Brighton and Hove – will include mentoring and technical and business support.

Sessions take place over the weekend starting on Friday 22 March although the organisers said that people were welcome to come for all or part of the weekend.

They said: “City Camp Brighton is about thinking differently about the way our city works and about using the web, technology and participation to change the future of our city.

“You can have great ideas. You can meet the council and public service staff who can help turn your idea into reality.

“You can win money to make things happen. It’s free. It’s fun and inspiring. It is full of interesting people who all share a passion for Brighton and Hove.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re someone with an idea or a problem to solve or if you have skills you can bring.

“City Camp is for people who are passionate about our city and want to find new ways of doing things.”

There will be presentations about some of the issues that face Brighton and Hove on Friday 22 March from 2pm to 5.30pm at the Sallis Benney Theatre in Grand Parade, Brighton.

Discussions will be held about how to make life better in Brighton and Hove on Saturday 23 March from 1pm to 5.30pm at the Brighthelm Centre in North Road, Brighton.

And on Sunday 24 March from 10am to 5pm the aim of the session at Hove Town Hall will be how to turn the best ideas into reality.

The Democratic Society, Nixon McInnes, and Public-i are the three main Brighton and Hove organisations behind the event.
