Apprenticeship Week with City College Brighton & Hove

Brighton City College raise awareness during this March by taking part in the nationwide Apprenticeship week

Youth unemployment has risen faster in the UK than in any other of the G8 countries since the start of the recession and a report published recently by the Work Foundation pointed out that the UK now has the third highest levels of youth unemployment among countries within the Organisation for Economic Cooperation and Development (OECD), with only Spain and Greece experiencing higher levels.

In light of this, during Apprenticeship Week (11-15 March), City College Brighton & Hove is taking part in nationwide awareness-raising of the apprenticeship framework, the opportunities it provides for young people and the many benefits it brings to the workforce and the economy. It needs to be understood that Apprenticeships are no longer just restricted to practical trades such as carpentry and plumbing – they cover a broad spectrum of careers including business, service industries, the creative & cultural sector, sport and technology.

City College is the largest and most successful apprenticeship provider in Brighton and Hove, also supporting apprenticeships within the organisation with seven apprentices currently working in areas such as HR, Estates and Student Services.

During Apprenticeship Week, the college will be involved in a variety of recruitment/promotional events in collaboration with its partners in the business community to raise the profile of apprenticeships in the local media.
