Into Africa

Austin Rees is delighted to be involved with an exciting trip to Tanzania. Paige, 19, and Georgia, 20, set off for Africa earlier this month. Their journey will take them some 300 miles into the bush of Iringa, where they are volunteering to help in orphanages and schools for children aged between three and twelve years old. These are the children that can’t afford the ‘free’ state schools because of the compulsory contribution added by the government towards the uniform, equipment and food. This fee prevents many of the poorest children attending.

Their trip will include working in a school on a Monday to Friday basis where they will assist teachers as well as teaching their own classes. Their spare time will be spent in the orphanages where young children are living with AIDS and HIV. Iringa has one of the highest HIV infection rates in Tanzania.

In becoming involved Austin Rees has helped organise the trip and more importantly this has meant that they can provide these children with workbooks, stationary and storybooks.
