Telscombe sheep worrying incident costs dog owner £600

A 21-year-old dog owner will pay a farmer £600 over a sheep-worrying incident on Telscombe Tye, Sussex Police said.

The incident happened in January, about a month after a Saltdean dog owner was prosecuted in court over the death of five sheep on Telscombe Tye last June.

PC Dave Tourell, from the Peacehaven, Saltdean and Telscombe Cliffs Neighbourhood Policing Team, said: “This incident sadly led to the deaths of four sheep.

“Sheep worrying is a criminal offence and the public are urged to keep dogs under full control, ideally on leads, especially in areas where livestock are present, to prevent incidents like this occurring.

“In this case, the offender agreed to pay the farmer £600 for the loss of his sheep as part of an agreed community resolution.”
