Driver charged after Christmas Day crash in Brighton

A driver who crashed his car on Christmas Day has been charged with driving without due care.

Roger Martyn, 67, was driving a Citroen C4 which crashed with a Mercedes Vito taxi in Montpelier Place, Brighton, late in the evening on Tuesday 25 December.

Sussex Police said: “As a result of the crash the taxi had mounted the pavement and collided with a 26-year old local woman pedestrian, causing her serious injury.

East Sussex Fire and Rescue attended and had to lift the vehicle off the injured woman.

“The road was closed for about two hours whilst police investigated the crash.

“The woman was treated at the Royal Sussex County Hospital for injuries to her body but was later discharged. The taxi driver was slightly hurt.”

Martyn, of Mill Close, Heathfield, is due to appear at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on Thursday 25 April.
