Ralph Steadman and Ceri Levy – Extinct Boids

Cartoonist Ralph Steadman, Hunter S. Thompson and Bruce Robinson’s favoured illustrator and scathing political satirist, has more recently been collaborating with filmmaker and author Ceri Levy on his book, ‘Extinct Boids’. Providing a series of anarchic portraits of beautiful but sadly extinct feathered friends to help raise awareness of current birds’ plight, Steadman took it further with his ‘boids’, a gaggle of completely made-up species to punctuate the real ones. This talk with Levy and Steadman came across as a jovial bumble; the elderly artist charmingly off-key and the younger author Levy informative. With Steadman’s glorious ink outpourings the undoubted focus, this was an entertaining afternoon diversion.
