S***-faced Shakespeare

I can safely say that I have never laughed so hard at one of the Bard’s comedies as I did at this. Hysterical, unstoppable and utterly unpredictable – no other company’s Lysander would have stopped midway and demanded the audience sing the theme from Dawson’s Creek with him. The premise is simple: an abridged Shakespeare production with classical actors, one of whom (and who it is changes each night) staggeringly drunk from the off. Although it sounds like a risky premise, the freeform comic occurrances mixed with a careful awareness from the rest of the cast of the edge of the stage was absolute fairy mischief magic. I want to see it again tomorrow.
