Labour chooses Brighton by-election candidate

Brighton and Hove Labour Party has chosen its candidate for the Hanover and Elm Grove by-election.

Labour has picked Emma Daniel, 36, who works for Hove-based Public-i, which provides internet services such as webcasting for local councils.

She was a member of Sussex Police Authority and set up the Coats for Kids project which collected and distributed coats to families who could not afford them last winter.

She said: “I am very pleased to be selected and I look forward to talking to local people about the positive policies and new ideas Labour has for Hanover and Elm Grove, as well as the city as a whole.”

The by-election, for a seat on Brighton and Hove City Council, is being on Thursday 11 July held after Green councillor Matt Follett resigned because he was moving out of the area.

Councillor Warren Morgan, the new leader of the council’s Labour group, said: “I’m delighted local members have chosen Emma.

“She will be an outstanding candidate and a fantastic councillor for Hanover and Elm Grove.

“So many voters are telling us they voted Green last time but are disappointed and will be returning to Labour in this election.”
