CDMS Partners Ltd reveals their record-breaking interior design secrets

Style watch

CDMS Partners Interior Designers have just completed this record-breaking show apartment in South London, where every single apartment has sold out on its first day of opening on Saturday 18 May 2013 including ‘bidding wars’ to purchase the beautiful show apartment with its CDMS Partners designed interior. The team reveals how they put together this stunning apartment…

Colour
We used our signature grey and taupe paint tones as a background for the apartment colour palette, this extended to the bathroom tiles and floorboards which are all a warm natural grey.

Then we picked out our highlight colours for each of the different living areas – bright-red in the kitchen, lime-green in the living area, blue-black in the master bedroom and straw-tan in the second bedroom. We used various ways to highlight these colours: vintage Bakelite red silk flex on the kitchen island feature lighting, red from the Swiss Railway clock and the red letters in the artwork. We found recycled wool blankets that combined the highlight colours in their tweed design and Vintage French magazine covers mixed with Paul Klee architectural prints and Lewes Tom Paine Printing Press images.

Vintage & Modern
We mixed our contemporary furniture and bespoke wall panels with vintage GPO and Belgian telephones, copper boxes, calf skins and old wooden trunks. We found some old 1920s medicine bottles and Indian silver caskets which set off our silver plated circular hall mirror. We have a collection of zinc, tin and stainless steel lanterns on the terrace and living room steps combining modern and Moroccan designs.

Rugs & Papers
Each room has its own bespoke sisal colour coded rug from our rug makers that tie together the highlight and background colour palette. We also found some unusual wallpapers – denim blue-black paper in the master bedroom offset by black wall lights, and silver-brown grass paper in the second bedroom, in the study we have found a postcode wall paper that highlights the local streets and areas on the wallpaper itself.

Feature Panels
We used a timber strip wallpaper and oak trims to make a textured panel in the living room. We matched the width of the panel to the dining table and centred a glass-drop light fitting over the table making a fabulous focal point in the room.

Bathrooms & Kitchen
In the bathrooms we used a rectangular grey limestone tile with grey marble mosaic in the shower and bath feature niches, and installed linear LED light strips over the full height mirrors.

The kitchen has a white high gloss handle-less design with grey limestone worktop incorporating a piano hob on the peninsular island. There are five ‘squirrel-cage’ Bakelite feature lights above the island.
