Brighton pub to be demolished
A Brighton pub is due to be demolished in the next four to eight weeks.
The Cobbler’s Thumb on the corner of New England Road and New England Street, near Preston Circus, closed earlier this year.
The building, which is owned by Brighton and Hove City Council, was declared structurally unsafe.
Now the council has applied to itself for permission to demolish the pub, formerly known as the New England Inn.
The two-storey building is due to come down during July with the demolition work completed in early August.
The council is considering redeveloping the site which is next to an old scrapyard, Richardson’s Yard, where Brighton Housing Trust (BHT) is to use shipping containers as housing.
