Aspiring vicars invited to vocations fair in Hove
A Church of England bishop wants aspiring vicars to attend a vocations fair at the Diocese of Chichester’s head office in Hove.
The event aims to help people discover how they may be called to a vocation within the ministry or mission of the church.
The Bishop of Horsham Mark Sowerby will be giving a talk at different times during the day.
He celebrates the 25th anniversary of his ordination as a priest tomorrow (Saturday 14 June).
He hopes that people from within the church and the wider community will come along to the event.
He said: “Our hope is to help every participant in the discovery of their personal vocation within the life of the church.
“Few people discover their vocation entirely on their own. Most rely upon the interest, encouragement, affirmation and discernment of others.
“It would be wonderful if this event could begin the discernment and encouragement of a new generation of teachers, evangelists and ordained ministers for the church, to serve in years to come.”
Ministers, readers and street pastors, family support worker, youth workers and missionaries will be among those on hand with advice and information.
The drop-in event takes place on Saturday 22 June from 11am to 3pm at Church House at 211 New Church Road, Hove.
