Funny Girls
Hannah Brackenbury’s monthly all-female comedy night started strongly with a charmingly silly set of songs from host Brackenbury herself. Blending elements of Victoria Wood whimsy with Seth McFarlane’s ‘Family Guy’ shtick of taking jokes further than their natural shelf-life, the compere perfectly punctuated performances from four other stand-ups. Amongst the highlights was the rough around the edges but surprisingly dark Cumbrian observational commentary from Jane Postlethwaite. It was regular headliner Julie Jepson, in hilarious character comedy form as a cartoon caricature Spanish radio star, complete with bad wig and Manuel aitches, though, who deservedly stole the show.
