Thomas Truax

A curious mix of fairground entertainer and musician, Thomas Truax sang strange songs using various homemade instruments such as the “Hornicator” (a gramophone record horn adapted with strings), “Mother Superior” (a bicycle wheel/drumkit), and a guitar. The best song was a mournful number about befriending and defending a pretty butterfly from an evil entomologist, and it also included the most melodic creation: a mini fan plucking guitar strings to create a lovely chiming sound. Sometimes the simple songs seemed a bit of an afterthought, but the showmanship and pageantry was fantastic, and the audience loved it. Audacious, fun and silly.
