Comic Boom

The odd balls were the reigning Kings and Queens at the July jubilee of the wildly funny Comic Boom night at Komedia.

First act Nick Dent blurred the line between very well acted and genuine nervous disposition with his truth talking punchlines. A surprise visit from 8 out 10 cats regular Joe Wilkinson demonstrated an unwavering commitment to character comedy. Previewing material from his Edinburgh Fringe show, his idiosyncratic quirks provided a much needed break from the over-saturated observational style which dominates prime time television.

Despite a commanding performance from headliner Simon Evans, it was Danish comic Sofie Hagen who stole the show. Fat jokes have never been funnier, nor so guilt-free. It was a performance few will forget.
