Regina Spektor
Only my second visit to De La War, and what a treat it is. Born in Russia, raised in America, Regina Spektor has spent the past few years creating the most hauntingly beautiful classic abstract music with melodies to suit. Tonight was a total amalgamation of her career. Her piano playing is second to none, beyond her quirkiness her style on ‘How’ from the latest album ‘What We Saw From The Cheap Seats’ is a beautiful ballad. ‘Shake Your Ass’ is a stormer and ‘Ballad Of A Politician’ leaft you in breathless. Her husband, Jack, made a brief appearance with a duet on ‘Call Them Brothers’, then throw in a couple of classics such as ‘Fidelity’ and ‘On The Radio’ and there you have it. Perfection.
