Stage: The Rise & Fall Of Geo Goynes

Root Experience takes you on a journey of rediscovery as you find Brighton anew

A story of fate and cunning on the streets of Brighton… what you would do to protect your beliefs? Root Experience takes you on a journey that will change the way you see the city of Brighton – led by a mobile phone and a spirit of adventure. Shows take place on Saturday 28 and Sunday 29 September as part of Brighton Digital Festival.

The Rise And Fall Of Geo Goynes harnesses digital technology to bring an exciting urban gaming experience to participating audiences. No need to bring your own phone though, these will be provided, to let you get on with the experience itself.
Without giving too much of the story away, you are led around the eclectic, winding lanes, streets and alley ways of Brighton where it will become clear which “role” you have in the game. You then need to find the other members of your team and complete tasks by solving clues, interacting with people and technology along the way. Two teams take part and each team has their own journey and back stories which will unfold as the game progresses.

There are three teams playing the game and the numbers are restricted to 15 for each game – five on each team, so places are limited! The structure of the show has been largely influenced by gaming theory and the input of Brighton Urban Gaming Zone, a team of enthusiastic and knowledgeable Sussex urban gamers.

Root Experience, a Brighton based theatre company, hve been working on ideas recently that smash together interactive theatre with digital and urban gaming allowing you to shape the action unfolding around you. You may remember the “human Tetris” on Brighton beach in the colder winter months.

Root Experience is currently looking for participants to help develop The Rise And Fall Of Geo Goynes during their residency with Blast Theory before the final show takes place during Brighton Digital Festival. If you are interested in getting involved, contact them via www.rootexperience.co.uk

Root Experience raised funds for this project using a Kickstarter campaign, which attracted backers from across the UK, America, Australia and Europe.“A fun and frantic journey through the back-streets of Brighton. Working as a team we solved puzzles and relied on each other’s wits and ingenuity to outsmart our opposing teams in an urban adventure that was both fun and challenging.” Jonathan May – Digital Producer LIFT Festival.

STAGE: A little nonsense

Acclaimed Bristol theatre company Juncture return to Brighton this September with an original black comedy that blends mime, slapstick, poetry and farce for a bare-knuckle look at the sharp edge of funny.

A Little Nonsense enjoyed sell-out audiences and unprecedented critical acclaim during this year’s Brighton Fringe Festival. The highly original and darkly funny show, which was nominated for Most Groundbreaking Theatre Award at the festival, is now returning to Brighton and the Three And Ten Theatre for a second bite of the custard pie.
A Little Nonsense combines the physicality of Buster Keaton, the linguistic games of Beckett and the off-kilter world of a David Lynch movie as the audience is led between moments of hilarity, violence and dark surrealism.

“Brighton is really special to us” says Director Anna Girvan. “Sussex University is where we started out – it’s always been a really inspiring town and has coloured much of what we do.” Juncture Theatre creates unexpected performances that champion bold, new writing and immersive experiences.

A Little Nonsense, Upstairs At The Three And Ten, Friday 20–Saturday 21 September.
Tickets £9.50/£8 Show times vary www.upstairsatthreeandten.co.uk
