Police recapture murderer suspected of three Brighton and Hove burglaries

A convicted murderer who is suspected of breaking into three homes in Brighton and Hove has been arrested by Sussex Police.

Paul Flint, 48, who absconded from Ford Prison in July, was recaptured in Horsham on Friday afternoon (6 September).

He was arrested in Wellington Road, Horsham, at 3.55pm after a member of the public saw him in the town and called police.

He has been charged with escaping from custody and will appear at Lewes Crown Court on Monday 30 September.

Flint was also arrested on suspicion of carrying out three burglaries in Brighton and Hove in July and August.

The first burglary took place at 11am on Monday 8 July in Granville Road, Hove, a week after Flint absconded from the open prison at Ford.

The second break-in happened in Cross Street, Hove, a week later on Monday 15 July between 8am and 10.30am

The third burglary was in Dean Street, Brighton, between 10.10am and 11.10am on Monday 5 August.

More than £2,500 cash was taken along with a black wallet and a black Sony Vaio laptop with the model number VPCEH1L8E/B.

He was questioned about the burglaries before being formally released on bail until Monday 7 October.

He will remain in prison because of his other convictions.

A police spokesman said: “We would like to thank everyone who has contacted us with possible sightings of Flint since he went missing.

“It is because of the public’s help that he has now been returned to prison.”
