Hove shopworker thwarts armed robber

A man armed with a knife tried to rob a convenience store in Hove.

He went into Vega Express Convenience Shop in Sackville Road, Hove, and threatened a man who was working there.

But the shopworker behind the counter refused to hand over any money and the would-be robber fled.

Sussex Police said that the suspect headed south down Sackville Road at about 8.20pm on Saturday (14 September).

He was described as a white man wearing a dark hooded top with white sleeves.

Detective Constable Steve Amner said: “Thankfully the worker was not injured and the suspect left without taking anything.

“We would like to speak to anyone who witnessed the incident or has any information.”

Anyone who can help is asked to call Sussex Police on 101 or email contact.centre@sussex.pnn.police.uk or call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.
