Train staff raise £1k for Hove hospice

The Martlets Hospice in Hove is £1,000 better off thanks to staff working for the train operator Southern.

It was one of four charities benefiting from more than £5,000 in total.

Southern staff nominated their favourite charities to receive donations as part of Southern’s annual employee survey.

The company said that it donates £2 to charities nominated by staff every year for each completed survey.

Robert Griffiths, the director of fundraising at the Martlets, said: “On behalf of the Martlets Hospice, I would like to thank all the employees of Southern Railway for raising £1,023 to support our work.”

Southern’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) and partnerships manager Andy Harrowell said: “We’re delighted that we’ve been able to raise money for four wonderful local charities.

“All of them work extremely hard to help and support individuals while they are going through difficult times.”

Southern said that it would continue to donate £1 for each annual season bought online at southernrailway.com to its corporate charities, the Royal Marsden Cancer Charity and the Martlets.
