Dead Meadow
With projections of swirling acid sea life shambling along in alien fashion, spaced-out guitar noise and lyrics influenced by Tolkien and Lovecraft, this Washington trio certainly ticked all the necessary psychedelic boxes. Meandering along at its own pace through lengthy numbers from an impressive back catalogue and new album ‘Warble Womb’, this sixties-sounding stoner set was at times a deeply satisfying slice of retro-rock. Sadly, an hour in, the repetitive, muso-friendly guitar-wrangling and singer Jason Simons’ dreary vocals had sucked all the essential energy from this performance, leaving little doubt that this was nothing more than a quiet Monday night.
