Aida

Verdi’s classic opera was given the full treatment by Ellen Kent on the opening night in Eastbourne, and did not disappoint. With lavish set designs, a beautifully rendered orchestral score, and suitable emotional gravitas from the leads, it combined the exotic and Gothic in equal measure with wondrous results. It was a spectacular production, with Elena Dee as Aida proving to be a revelation, supported ably by Sorin Lupu as Radames and Zarui Vardanean as Amneris. While it was not without a few opening night mistakes, this promises to be a huge hit in the months ahead.
