Manu Delago

Although he’s mostly referred to as Björk’s Hang player and percussionist, Manu Delago is staking a claim for more widespread recognition in his own right. Joined by three other multi-instrumentalists/singers, he staged a wonderfully innovative and idiosyncratic performance, including a song both about and played by a diseased metronome, an “alpine German” sung track and dramatically choreographed lighting to highlight each performer in different colours for different moods. Although the set lost momentum at some points, the impressive technical percussion pieces enlivened proceedings. An interesting, technically gifted musician and showman, brimming with potential, but not quite the finished article just yet.
