Half Man Half Biscuit
It may have felt like an over-50s night but this was a positive bonus with songs referencing Bob Todd and Crispy Ambulance. Nigel Blackwell’s ebullient Scousers kicked off with their tribute to old-time cricketer Fred Titmus and played a rambunctious set which showed their enthusiasm and wit was as sharp as ever. With witty asides taking in local landmarks and hilarious plays on words, Blackwell proved a perfect frontman as he bawled out hit after tongue-in-cheek hit, recalling a coherent and more erudite Mark E Smith. The crowd bounced and sang along to every irresistibly catchy song – a pure delight.
