Simon Munnery – Fylm

Simon Munnery’s career has, so far, enjoyed considerably less commercial success than it has critical acclaim. Always consciously pushing the boundaries of stand-up comedy and often approaching performance art, ‘comedian’s comedian’ Munnery’s latest show was perhaps the perfect encapsulation of his creative ethos. Projecting his face and semi-animations created live on screen whilst accompanied by folk performer David Willis on gentle acoustic guitar, the end result was a wonderfully bizarre hotch-potch of thoughtful meanders, oddball punk vocals and downright silly tomfoolery. Conversely both the most out-there and most direct work of his twenty-odd year career to date, Fylm was sometimes rib-shatteringly funny.
