BrEMF – 40 Shades Of Spem In Alium – BrEMF Consort Of Voices And Chantage
The title alludes to the fact that this piece of music has been made famous by 50 Shades Of Grey, but this celebration of the work of Thomas Tallis and William Byrd was thankfully far more beautiful and memorable than the novel. ‘Spem In Alium’ itself was sensational, with over fifty singers staged around the audience creating a powerful, surround sound, all-consuming experience. Nigel Pittman was an eloquent, commanding presenter, setting the scene for every other rich, accomplished and moving piece in the generous two-and-a-half-hour long set. Spem was reprised in English for the finale, leaving the audience stunned and drawing a standing ovation from many.
