Yasiin Bey AKA Mos Def

Concorde 2 is gaining a reputation as the live hip hop centre of Brighton, and a rare UK date for Yasiin Bey carried on where KRS-One and the Ultramagnetic MCs left off. The charismatic Yasiin has a unique, trippy persona, with a carnival video backdrop and hazy leftfield beats combining perfectly with his smooth, lilting voice. The set leaned heavily towards his most recent album Ecstatic, but old favourite ‘Mathematics’ elicited the loudest reaction from the boisterous crowd. Bey even spent a few minutes dancing to other music from the band Tame Impala, epitomising the positive feel-good vibe of his whole performance. Uplifting, fun and inspiring.
