Bike-riding muggers attack couple in Hove

Two muggers on bicycles attacked and robbed a couple as they walked home from a party in Hove.

The muggers confronted the couple – a man and a woman – in Lansdowne Place, Hove, near Palmeira Square.

One of them punched the man several times, Sussex Police said, causing him severe facial injuries which needed hospital treatment.

The other mugger snatched the woman’s handbag from her before both fled on bikes.

The stolen bag, minus its contents, was found by a member of the public who handed it in at Hove Town Hall on Monday (28 October).

Sussex Police said that both muggers were white with tanned skin.

One was described as being in his mid to late twenties, 6ft tall, of muscular build and with short cropped brown hair.

The other was described as being in his late twenties to early thirties, 5ft 9in to 5ft 10in tall and with short dark hair.

Detective Constable Tom Coll, of Brighton and Hove CID, said: “This was an unprovoked attack that has left both victims shocked and scared.

“The man suffered facial injuries that required hospital treatment.

“I am keen to hear from anyone who saw his incident or who may have information about it.

“I would also like to hear from the good Samaritan who found and handed in the stolen handbag, as he or she did not leave any contact details and I need to confirm exactly where it was found.”

The attack happened at about 5.30am on Sunday (27 October).
