BrEMF – Instruments of Passion – Trio Goya

Haydn and Beethoven don’t often feature in Early Music festivals but they do when Maggie Cole is at the keyboard. The timbre of her reproduction 1795 fortepiano perfectly matched the strings (Kati Debretzeni, violin and Sebastian Comberti, cello), especially in the pizzicato passages.

The trios, Haydn’s in A flat (1790), Beethoven’s in C minor Op. 1 no.3 (1793/4) and then Haydn again in C (1797), were played chronologically to demonstrate how the young Beethoven influenced his revered master.

Trio Goya’s exquisite performance quite transformed the bare auditorium of The Old Market into an aristocratic chamber worthy of the Royal Pavilion!
