BrEMF – Passion & the Princess – Musica Secreta

This evening the Old Market morphed by turns into a Renaissance convent and a ducal presence chamber, thanks to the beguiling Ferrarese music so skilfully revived by Musica Secreta. Director Deborah Roberts led from the front as soprano in a mixed array of professional and amateur specialist in this most complex style of singing.

They illustrated in song the volatile life of Lucrezia d’Este. Great-niece of the infamous Lucrezia Borgia, her life was predicated on music, marriage and murder. It was all most elegantly narrated by Laurie Stras, who devised a programme most suitable for the Feast of All Souls.
