The Staves
My first gig in a church was with the wonderful Staves. The three sisters from Watford supplied an ageing audience with the finest harmonies you are ever likely to hear. An air of Crosby, Stills & Nash and Simon & Garfunkel, English folk/rock, and not too far away from the great Sandy Denny. They started their career playing local open mic nights only to be thrown onto the world stage and representing impeccably. ‘Mexico’, ‘Pay Us No Mind’ and ‘Facing West’ featured. All beautifully intertwined harmonies on top of a lazy quiet country twang. The audience were stunned to silence with the captivating beauty, just ready to suck you in and travel with them. ‘The Motherload’ and ‘Bloodless’ and the mainly acapella ‘Wisely’ and ‘Slow’ were stunning. The Staves have released four or five EPs and one studio album, which in my opinion is well worth a listen.
Really enjoyed The Staves and in the church they sounded like they were from a higher source.
