Brighton firefighters tackle blaze after heater explodes

A 33-year-old man suffered burns when a heater exploded at a house in Brighton yesterday evening (Sunday 17 November).

Two fire crews from Brighton were called to the explosion which led to a blaze.

The injured man suffered burns to his face and hands and was treated by Kent, Surrey and Sussex Air Ambulance staff before being taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton.

Firefighters arrived at the house in Braypool Lane, Patcham, at about 6pm and were dealing with the incident until just before 7.15pm.

A full fire investigation was carried out and the cause was deemed to be accidental, involving a heater, East Sussex Fire and Rescue Service said.

At 6.40pm a crew from Hove Fire Station dealt with the first of two arson attacks in Portslade in under an hour.

A skip was set alight in Gladstone Road and shortly afterwards clothes were set on fire in a recycling bin in Victoria Road.
